- Easier smeasier. What's that got to do with the price of [insert your favorite
- thing 'in' your favorite place, here]? The metal list is not much different
- than the ALLMUSIC list. With both you have a bunch of people that like
- different types of music. There are many types of heavy metal. You got
- Progressive (Fates Warning, Queensryche), Thrash (Pantera, Metallica,
- Megadeth), Industrial (Ministry), Death (Entombed, Possessed, Napalm Death),
- Black (Venom, Celtic Frost), Pop [aka poseur glam crap] (Poison,
- Warrant, Bon Jovi, ad nauseam), and then there's Hard Rock (Trouble, Tesla,
- Great White) etc.
-
- I can tell you I can't tolerate any of that Death crap. The lyrics are
- nearly impossible to hear and the music sounds like a big conglomoration
- of noise. Most on the metal list hate any kind of Pop-glam stuff.
-
- It's not much different with ALLMUSIC. You have Country, Jazz, Rock, Reggae,
- New Age, etc. (Am I commiting a fallacy here by assuming that what is true
- for the specific is true for the more general?) I don't like any Country
- music I have heard. I want someone to turn me on to something I do like.
- I *never* thought I would like anything by Celtic Frost. I have never even
- heard of Mekong Delta (I have no idea what metal classification to put them
- under). Have any of *you* heard of Mekong Delta? Well, you'll hear about them
- in a few weeks after I receive the CD by them I had to order specially from
- Germany.
-
- I want to hear your favorite Henry Cow tune. I want to hear "n.n."'s favorite
- Holdsworth tune. I want to hear cmv's favorite Sharrock tune. [I think] I
- want to hear Leonard's favorite Blues track. I want to hear Carol's
- favorite tune to give head by. I want to hear Marsha's favorite a cappella
- song. etc. etc. etc. Oops, don't forget Bob Crispen's favorite Enya tune.
-
- Geez, sorry for going nutso here. There doesn't need to be any rules;
- everybody picks a song and that's it. You *can't possibly* please everybody
- with every song.
