Their nova lox is quite good but not inexpensive (about $21/lb). It's the best I've been able to find in the area. I find most lox to be too salty and too dry; I like lox to be very moist and not too salty. (If you prefer saltier lox, don't go to Whole Foods...) For less expensive lox, Trader Joe's sells 3 oz packages (but lox sold packaged in plastic never seems as fresh as right off the slab..). =============================================================================== and then BK writes: Draegers Market in Los Altos. But your bagels at the Bagel Factory on Homestead near Mary. You can also get good bagels at the Plush Bagel in Los Altos. =============================================================================== and then SP writes: The packaged smoked salmon (lox-style) that Trader Joe's sells is IMO a good value. =============================================================================== and DE writes: I've never gotten it there, but Molly Stone's in Palo Alto has lox and other Jewish foods that look awfully good. That's where I'd go if I wanted to buy lox. ...and then KP responds... I bought some lox pieces from their deli case a few months ago. It was only $12 a pound. The clerk explained that they (the lox, not the clerks) were ends and pieces, which was why it cost so little... Bottom line: delicious! And I don't particularly care if my begal is covered by one piece that I have to fold anyway or a few small pieces. Tastes the same (or better)! =============================================================================== and HP writes: Price Club occasionally has lox for $10.00/lb. IMHO, it's as good as any, but I'm no lox connoisseur. =============================================================================== DD says: Try Cosentino's deli department. Located on Homestead east of Lawrence. Also on Bascom south of Union. They usually have several different kinds of smoked salmon (I've gotten both Alaskan and Norwegian) for reasonable prices. I've found the Norwegian, which I think runs around $15/lb., to be excellent. But check the price; it's been a couple of months since I got some there. =============================================================================== and JL says: I was in the Posh Bagel in Los Altos on Sunday and they seemed to have many different types. They are located in Downtown Los Altos on Main or First. Their prices may be a little high but you might be able get some questions answered on what to look for.
