- In the next articles, you will find the following Australian charts:
-
- (i) The 60 biggest selling singles of 1992
- (ii) The 100 biggest selling singles of 1991
- (iii) The 100 biggest selling singles of 1990
- (iv) The 50 biggest selling singles of 1989
-
- These charts were supplied by A.R.I.A. (The Australian Recording Industry
- Association), and are based ONLY on record sales.
-
- -------------------
- The top 60 of 1992:
- -------------------
-
- This year sees the Australian content of the top 60 of 1992 at
- 30% (18 records), with only one Aussie record in the top 10 and three in the
- top 20. It is clear that singles sell much better at the end of
- the year than at the start. Five of the top 10 singles of 1992 were
- still in the regular top 10 charts from last week! The big surprise was
- Whitney Houston's I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU coming in as the 17th biggest selling
- single of 1992 after being in the charts for only 3 weeks! And only
- one of those weeks was spent at number one! It just goes to show what
- Christmas time does to record sales! Big charting singles,
- like George and Elton's DON'T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME, which
- peaked at number 3 at the start of the year, performed poorly
- in the end of year chart. The above single was outsold by the recent number
- 15 hit by The Teen Queens, LOVE HOW YOU LOVE ME, which illustrates that
- big business in the singles market occurs in the lead up to Christmas,
- and that January and Februaury sales are usually poor. Seventeen of
- the 60 biggest selling singles of 1992 are still charting.
-
- Which artists dominated the top 60 of 1992? Here is a list of the
- artists that scored 2 records in the top 60 - none scored three.
