- I just saw CARMILLA this weekend. Apparently, Shelley Duvall (sp?)
- did a cable series called "Nightmare Classics", and this was the first
- installment. I believe the director's first name was Gabrielle. While
- there were some logic problems with the movie, what can you expect in
- 55 minutes? I loved the mood, and I thought the casting (Meg Tilly and
- Ione Skye) was great. Very romantic. For those who haven't seen this
- version of Carmilla, this one resets the tale in the American South.
- While not as blatantly erotic as some versions, I felt that this was a
- good retelling of LeFanu's tale.
-
- I also saw LUST FOR A VAMPIRE this weekend, and I really liked it.
- I'm rather shameless, though, about the kind of moody vampire movie
- with pretty women whose bodices keep falling off...I even handled the
- funky graveyard lovemaking scene (*where* did they get that music --
- and why?!). Though, I believe I've spent too much time watching Mystery
- Science Theater 3000, because every time Miss Playfair would run off,
- with her upswept bundle of curls bouncing behind her, I couldn't help
- but say, "Oh, oh, I have to run...must get this hairpiece back to that
- waitress at Denny's, before she starts her shift!" Oh, well, maybe you
- had to be there.
-
- VAMPYRES is next. It's in the VCR, waiting for my husband to finish
- watching football. I played the first minute and a half to entice him,
- and I'm pretty darn sure he'll watch the whole thing. :^) They kind
- of drop you right into the story, don't they?
