- Since I last posted, I've found a few more movies which appear to be
- about lesbian or bisexual vampires (most are based on LeFanu's CARMILLA).
- I haven't looked for any in the video stores yet, but below are their
- summaries from the 1993 VIDEO HOUND'S GOLDEN MOVIE RETRIEVER. The ratings
- in the source book run from Woof! (so bad it may be good) to 4 doggie bones
- (a masterpiece).
-
- If you've seen one or more of these movies, please let me know if these
- are correctly categorized, and what you thought of the films. Thanks.

- Addendum to Lesbian Vampire Movie List
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- LEMORA, LADY DRACULA (1973)
-
- Cast: Leslie Gilb, Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith, William Whitton, Steve
- Johnson, Monty Pyke, Maxine Ballantyne, Parker West, Richard Blackburn.
- Director: Richard BlackBurn
-
- A pretty young church singer is drawn into the lair of the evil Lady
- Dracula, whoes desires include her body as well as her blood. Horror
- fans will enjoy some excellent atmosphere, particualrly in a scene
- where the girl's church bus is attacked by zombie-like creatures; Smith
- remains a '70s "B" movie favorite. Perhaps as a double feature with
- LADY FRANKENSTEIN...? Rating: 1 doggie bone.
-
-
- THE VELVET VAMPIRE (1971)
-
- Cast: Michael Blodgett, Sherry Miles, Celeste Yarnall, Gene Shane,
- Jerry Daniels, Sandy Ward, Paul Prokop, Chris Woodley, Robert Tessier.
- Director: Stephanie Rothman
-
- Yarnall is a sexy, sun-loving, dune buggy-riding vampiress who
- seduces a young, sexy, swinging, Southern California couple in her
- desert home. Lots of atmosphere to go along with the blood and
- nudity. Rating: 2 doggie bones.
-
-
- DRACULA'S DAUGHTER (1936)
-
- Cast: Gloria Holden, Otto Kruger, Marguerite Churchill, Iving Pichel,
- Edward Van Sloan, Nan Grey, Hedda Hopper
- Director: Lambert Hillyer
-
- Count Dracula's daughter, Countess Marya Zaleska, heads to London to
- supposedly find the cure to a mysterious illness. Instead she finds
- she has a taste for human blood, especially female blood. She also finds
- a man, who she falls in love with and tries to keep by casting a spell
- on him. A good script and cast keep this sequal to Bela Legosi's
- DRACULA entertaining. Rating: 3 doggie bones.
-
-
- CARMILLA (1989)
-
- Cast: Meg Tilly, Ione Skye, Roddy McDowall, Roy Dotrice
- Director: Gabrielle Beaumont
-
- An adaptation of the Sheridan LeFanu lesbian vampire tale. From
- Shelley Duvall's cable television series "Nightmare Classics." Rating:
- 3 doggie bones.
-
-
- BLOOD AND ROSES (1961)
-
- Cast: Mel Ferrer, Elsa Martinelli, Annette Vadim, Marc Allegret
- Director: Roger Vadim
-
- A girl who is obsessed with her family's vampire background becomes
- possessed by a vampire and commits numerous murders. The photography is
- good, but the plot is hazy and only effective in certain parts. Based on
- the book CARMILLA by Sheridan LeFanu. Later remade as THE VAMPIRE LOVERS
- and THE BLOOD-SPATTERED BRIDE. Rating: 2 doggie bones.
-
-
- THE BLOOD-SPATTERED BRIDE (1972, Spanish)
-
- Cast: Simon Andrew, Maribel Martin, Alexandra Bastedo, Dean Selmier, Rosa
- Ma Rodriguez, Monteserrat Julio
- Director: Vicente Aranda
-
- A newlywed couple honeymoon in a remote castle in Southern Spain. They are
- visited by a mysterious young woman who begins to influence the bride in
- the way of bloodsucking. Okay '70s Euro-eroti-horror based on LeFanu's
- CARMILLA. Also known as BLOOD CASTLE. Rating: 1 doggie bone.
-
-
- LEGEND OF BLOOD CASTLE (1972, Italian-Spanish)
-
- Cast: Lucia Bose, Ewa Aulin

-
- Another version of the Countess of Bathory legend, in which an evil
- woman bathes in the blood of virgins in an attempt to keep the
- wrinkles away. Released hot on the heels of Hammer's COUNTESS DRACULA.
- Also known as THE FEMALE BUTCHER and BLOOD CEREMONY. Rating: 1 doggie
- bone.
