- In a previous article, karpen@nrlfs1.nrl.navy.mil (Judy Karpen) says, in part:
-
- >Anyone else
- >(besides me) think the Sci-Fi channel is a big waste of time? Most of their
- >material is only good for MST3K treatment, & unbearable without it.
- >"Mysteries from Beyond the Other Dominion" is a riot, though.
-
- No, I don't think SFC is a waste of time. For example...
-
- "The Prisoner" Sundays at 10pm
- What "Twin Peaks" fans watched before there WAS "Twin Peaks". Not for
- the faint or literal of mind. Excellent stuff.
-
- "Probe" Weeknights at 10pm
- A show created by Isaac Asimov? No wonder it didn't last long...the
- average American is incapable of keeping up. I LOVE this show.
-
- "Battlestar Galactica" Weeknights at 8pm
- Okay, so it's cheesy. It's still a great nostalgia trip, and some of
- the episodes are actually sort of good. (Okay, so it's just a nostalgia
- trip.)
-
- "Alien Nation" Saturdays at 7pm
- I say this based on the episodes I watched when the series was originally
- shown, and all of those were from the first season. What I saw, I liked.
- Later epsiodes/seasons may not be worth it; I don't know.
-
- "War of the Worlds" Weeknights at 9pm
- Okay, so most of the episodes are average, and some really stink. Some
- of them are also quite good. The dialogue is better than any first-season
- episode of ST:TNG you care to name, and later seasons took on an interesting
- cyberpunk flavor.
-
-
- Those are the five I can think of right away. Granted, the channel offers
- a lot of room for improvement--where's Star Trek? Star Wars? Alien(s)? and
- so on. However, I attribute these to infancy. If given time to develop,
- the quality could improve dramatically. Especially by showing better movies.
- Oh, and you're right--"Mysteries From Beyond the Other Dominion" is
- utterly hysterical. I just have one question: Is that guy REALLY serious,
- or is he sort of a retro-skeptic? I still haven't figured it out...
