- I'm not a silk expert, but am learning! This information is from
- _Sensational Silk_ by Gail Brown.
-
- The book has a chart of linings recommended for various weights of
- fabrics. Possibilities for lining medium weight
- fabrics include:
-
- China Silk*,
- Tissue faille,
- Ciao!(tm) by Armo,
- Slippery lightweight silks and silkies, like Ultressea and Coupe de
- Ville from Burlington/Klopman, Lutesong, A la Creme and Palazzio by
- Skinner
- Polyester linings.
-
- *China Silk is a thin, plain weave silk that is often used for linings
- and lingerie--not necessarily from the country China

-
- For thread, she recommends testing different types of threads to see
- how they work on the fabric. All types can be used.
-
- Coats & Clark Dual Duty Plus Extra Fine is one possibility.
- Silk thread is strong and may cut the seams in a fitted garment--it's
- better to use in loose fitting garments with little seam stress.
- Some of the silk companies recommend 100% cotton thread because it
- is weaker than the fabric.
- Polyesters can also be used, but not the cheap ones.
-
- Hope this helps.
-
-
- And, on the line of new sewing toys received, my mother gave me a pair
- of Gingher applique scissors that I'm thrilled to have!
