- I ordered the LJR Catalogue (mentioned in the grand-parent article :-) and it
- consists of Men's Latin and Women's Latin and Smooth costumes. The designs
- are quite nice IMO. The women's smooth costumes consist of a stretchable
- body suit, a bodice and a flowing skirt. There are several patterns for
- bodices (different neck lines, sleeves and gloves). The skirts consist of
- a 1.5 circle top skirt and two 1 circle under skirts. They suggest chiffon,
- pearl chiffon, twinckle nylon (?) and other fabrics I don't remeber. The hem
- is weighted by a 100lb test fishing line and/or boas.
- Women's patterns are $22-25 and each includes variation and some have a latin
- and a smooth pattern. Men's latin patterns are $19.50 for a shirt/pants or
- $17.50 for 3 shirts or 2 pants.
- LJR also suplies fabrics. They send you samples in their catalogue. I don't
- know how competitive their prices are but making a smooth costume with boas
- will get quite expensive (the fabric adds up).
- I do love the samples for the men's outfit, especially the 4-ply crepe ($45)
- and the crushed satin (~$15).
-
- What really surprized me were the prices for sequined fabric. Those things
- go for up to $235 a yard (and I think they are less than 45")! And I feel
- bad for spending $6/yard for shirt fabric :-) Are those things sewn on by
- hand or why are they so expensive?
-
- I'll try to drop by LJR when I'm in Dallas over the Holidays and I'll report
- if I see anything interesting. If anybody knows where to get smooth men's
- patterns or a less expensive source for the two fabrics I liked let me know.

- Disclaimer: I don't have anything to do with LJR Designs. I just got their
- catalogue and figured people might be interested.
