  13. Christopher Conway interprets the clause giving RSA the right to use
  14. and distribute any modifications to RSAREF or the Application as
  15. making such things "their property." This is an unfair misreading.

  17. Assuming the message is not an attempt to make RSA wrong, but Conway
  18. is genuinely concerned:
  19. They give RSA free for non-commercial use; fair is fair and they
  20. should have the right to use and distribute anything that uses
  21. RSA in this way. If you want to have a commercial product then
  22. you should license RSA and pay the fee.

  24. The agreement says clearly that you can't charge (except for media
  25. costs) for anything you develop with RSAREF. Thus no economic
  26. value is lost if RSA also distributes the Application or modification.
  27. To the contrary, since those who use RSAREF do so to provide free
  28. product for what one assumes are altruistic motives, RSA's giving
  29. the products even wider distribution should be viewed as a
  30. "Good Thing" and not some evil or unfair purpose.

  32. A right to use and distribute of the kind in the agreement does
  33. not convey any property rights; just a right to use and distribute.
  34. See the parallel language about RSAREF in the agreement, which gives
  35. the licensee rights to use and distribute, but does not convey
  36. property rights.

  38. Could we please stop the RSA bashing here, assume good faith
  39. until PROVEN otherwise, and get on with things?
