  33. My experience with American women is that they don't talk to a potential
  34. boyfriend about other their relationship or about other men unless they
  35. are trying to say something serious.  From a male perspective (at least,
  36. this male's perspective), it can be hard to figure out exactly *what*
  37. they are saying, but they *are* saying *something*, and it's usually
  38. worthwhile to find out what.

  40. When this woman says there's nothing going on between you and she, and
  41. talks about the other man, it seems to me she could be saying one of
  42. several things:
  43. 1. She's just mentioning the situation for your information, and doesn't
  44.    mean to say anything more than that.  I've never met an American woman
  45.    who would do this; it seems to be culturally ingrained not to do this.
  46. 2. She's trying to tell you that she doesn't feel romantic about you and
  47.    just wants to be your friend.  This might be because she feels romantic
  48.    about the other guy.  Again, I've never met an American woman who would
  49.    do this; she'd come right out and tell it to you directly, rather than
  50.    hinting at it like this.
  51. 3. She's trying to tell you that she *does* feel romantic about you, and
  52.    wants you to be more aggressive about it.  When she says, "There's nothing
  53.    between you and me", the implication is, "But there should be something!"
  54.    When she says, "This other guy is bugging me about you," the implication
  55.    is, "If you don't hurry up and get romantic, well, there are other men
  56.    out there who will."

  58. It's quite possible that a Lithuanian woman would not mean the same sorts
  59. of things as American women, but I think you should find out.  I would
  60. actually suggest being more aggressively romantic with her, and if that's
  61. not what she meant, you'll find out pretty quick.
