- The differences of opinion between Dio/Iommi/Ozzy occurred as the result
- of Ozzy's asking Sabbath to play as special guests at his two final shows
- here in L.A. Dio flat out refused, stating that opening for Ozzy would
- usurp his position as current - and quite popular - frontman for Sabbath.
- Ozzy, continued to try to convince him, as did Iommi and Butler, but he
- wasn't buying into it. Iommi, Geezer, and Appice wanted to do the show,
- though, and announced that they were going to play. Dio then said, "O.K.,
- I'm outta here... ," thus terminating the current Sabbath lineup. For
- a while it was speculated that Ozzy would play with both bands, but
- then management announced that Rob Halford would front Sabbath. At the final
- show Ozzy, Iommi, Butler, and Bill Ward got up and did three songs
- at the end of the evening with Ozzy dressed in his best 70s-fringed
- polyester outfit. Ozzy kept the band in stitches - he kept mooning Bill
- Ward, who almost fell off his stool he was laughing so hard.
-
- Sabbath is technically a non-entity for right now. Dio is doing whatever
- Dio does when he's between projects. Its almost a definite that Ozzy and
- some form of his band and/or Sabbath will have the special guest slot at
- Donington next year, and Ozzy is taking a much-needed vacation for a few
- months.
-
- Ozzy (to respond to someone else's post about him stealing Sabbath from Dio)
- just thought it would be a lark to get Sabbath to join him as a sort of
- nostalgic "blast from the past" at his farewell shows. He was really
- puzzled that Dio would be so weird about playing on the same bill as him,
- and to be honest I think its pretty damn bizarre too. I mean, Dio has
- many, many fans from his Sabbath days, and IMHO must be quite insecure
- if he couldn't handle working with Ozzy.
-
- Anyway, I've rambled on long enough.
