  11.   Wondering if anyone else has listened to Mano Negra (Franco-Spanish
  12. band -- 'King of Bongo', 'Putas Fever'), and if so, do you think it is ska-
  13. influenced.  The first song I heard of theirs (forget what it was) I 
  14. immediately asked the friend who was playing it, 'Is this French SKA?'
  15. Then I heard some other cuts which are more like straight rock, rap, etc.
  16. It's pretty hard to classify, but some of it sure sounds like French 
  17. and Spanish ska.  Whatever it is, it's good.

  19.   BTW, glad to have the new group.  I caught The Selector performance with 
  20. Skanking Pickle last summer in SF, and just missed the Special Beat there
  21. by about a week.  I don't know what some of you were saying about ska
  22. being dead, but it seems to me there's a revival just picking up steam.
  23. (Which is good for me, 'cause I didn't discover ska until after the boom
  24. of the early '80s was over -- Madness & English Beat broken up, etc.)

  26.   There was a fair ska band here in Hawaii called Mr. Simon, but they just
  27. disbanded this summer, so nothing really happening locally, as far as I
  28. know.
