- Hi,
-
- I would hope that *all* music is preserved even if it doesn't "endure".
- There must be thousands of classical compositions that are *never* seen by
- students in school, let alone performed. "Classical" usually means what the
- classical establishment deems proper, Bach, Brahms, Stravinsky, Mozart, etc...
- Whens the last time Antoine Brumels "Earthquake Mass" was performed? How often
- do you hear Tallis' "Mass for Four Voices" on your local classical station?
- Given time I'm sure that John Adams, Phillip Glass, Terry Riley and Sun Ra
- will be as respected as Bach is today. It may take 200 years, but...
- What about books? A thousand scholars would take a
- century or more to read every book in the Library of Congress, and I'm sure
- that there are many 'hidden gems' there. BTW, doesn't the LOC preserve
- recordings as well? Could my great grandchildren go there in the 22nd century
- and dig out an Art Zoyd CD?
- Maybe sometime in the 30th century, some people will dig up progressive
- music and 'rediscover it'. Maybe the people of the 30th century will see
- genius in the works of Marillion, Yes, Genesis, etc in the same way that we
- see genius in the work of Mozart today. It's all relative, after all
- Tchaikovskys 'Swan Lake' was considered a flop when first performed.
