  17. This is John Goodsall's (guitarist of Brand X) 'other' band.
  18. I've caught them four times this year in small clubs here in 
  19. L.A., and they blew me away.  I haven't heard the latest brand X, 
  20. so I can't compare (can anyone else out there post such a 
  21. comparison?), but they basically do hard jams on weird time sigs 
  22. (15/8, etc.) that are DENSE with textural and thematic variation.

  24. In addition to J.G., Fire Merchants consists of the bassist
  25. from the Dennis Miller Show (was Andy Summer's band...),
  26. and Toss Panos, the drummer from Toy Matinee (a lousy band, I
  27. hear, but a springboard for several talents), who does continuous
  28. double-bass jazz solos but syncing perfectly with the others.  
  29. They have at least one album out with Chester Thomson (who isn't
  30. as all-out as T.P. in this band).
