  16. Here is the flyer for this year's contest.  I have typed it just as the
  17. text appears on the hardcopy, with a single typo fixed and some
  18. typographical liberties.  Typos are my own; garamtical errors are not.
  19. I had heard that the *postmark* deadline was January 9th, 1993, but this
  20. flyer has a later deadline for receipt.  Anyway, there's not a lot of
  21. time but there is *some*.  Write songs or send from your collected works
  22. for the ego-boo of possibly appearing in a widely sold songbook, but
  23. there are no royalties (to get those, use one of the publishers, such as
  24. Wail Songs (but they are picky), or publish yourself).

  26.                    The 1992-93 NESFA Filksong Contest

  28.                            Open to filksongs
  29.                 hitherto unpublished, or first published
  30.                (either in fan or professional literature)
  31.                          after January 1, 1992

  33. Either lyrics or scores must be original; arrangements (i.e., someone
  34. else's words to someone else's music) (e.g., McCaffrey's Harper's songs)
  35. means obtaining the author's written permission.

  37. Entries set to original music must include a written score and an audio
  38. tape.  Entries set to obscure music should include an audio tape.
  39. Original lyrics may include audio tapes as well as the required printed
  40. (typed) lyric sheets for all entries.  Tapes will be returned if sturdy
  41. envelopes and sufficient postage are included with submission.

  43. Please be assured that entries will *not* be judged by the quality of
  44. the voices or instrument playing on the submitted tapes.  It is only
  45. important that our judges be able to get a sense of the music.

  49. By submitting a filksong you are giving NESFA permission to use your
  50. filk in future editions of the NESFA Hymnal.  Because of this, the
  51. copyright for all songs submitted must lie with the author and must be
  52. available.  Authors will retain ownership of works included in the
  53. Hymnal.

  55. Prize categories will be finalized after all entries are received.
  56. Usually, categories include hard SF, fantasy, fannish, media, science,
  57. computers and humor.  Entrants may indicate in which category they feel
  58. their works should be judged; however, the committee reserves the final
  59. determination regarding each submission.  The committee reserves the
  60. right to reject any submission as unacceptable.  Levels of awards are
  61. First Prize (the top award in each major category) and Honorable Mention
  62. (which may be one or more in each category).  Winning entries will be
  63. announced at Boskone XXX in February 1993.

  65. Entries must be received by NESFA by January 15, 1993.  No late entries
  66. will be accepted.  You know the condition of the Post Office in
