  16. Apart from the fingering, try pulling your thumb lower on the neck, so that
  17. you have more hand to arch over the fretboard.  This will prevent damping
  18. the open strings.  And don't go to the F-moved-up-two-frets version of G.
  19. The open strings G has a charm of its own, esp. for folksy songs.
