-
- I saw two burning cars in three days this past year. One was on the
- freeway, just over a hill, and I saw the glow from a couple of miles away
- as I came at it in the dark, and felt a major wash of heat as I passed
- it two lanes away. The other was just down the road from my house, and
- it completely burned down to a metal hulk that sat on the side of the road
- for a couple of days. On TV a car bursts into flames, and then immediately
- goes out except for a couple flickers here and there. Real life was more
- spectacular.
-

- Also, I made a foray to my GARAGE where I performed twisted experiments
- on my innocent light blue Tercel. It was _remarkably_ easy to pick up
- the back corner of the car and lift the wheel an inch off the ground.
-
- Then I stood there wondering, now what? How do I get the hypothetical
- child out from under the car (if it can't get out under its own power)?
- I couldn't drag it out with no arms free. I couldn't even kick it out
- because both legs were busy. I couldn't figure it out. So I put the car
- down and went inside.
-
- Summary: lifting a car off a helpless child was more of a brainteaser /
- creativity test (which I failed) than a question of crazed, muscle tearing,
- ligament rending hysterical strength.
