- Speaking of Time magazine and political correctness, a couple of weeks
- ago Time published a sneering column about a university drama department
- that had put on a version of Brecht's "The Good Woman of Szechuan"
- entitled "The Good PERSON of Szechuan". It then went on to make PC
- titles out of all sorts of literary works such as "Person and Super-
- person, by G. B. Shaw" etc. etc.
-
- Unfortunately for Time, the play's director may not have been being
- PC, just literal. The title of Brecht's play in the original is
- "Der gute Mensch von Sezuan". Now, boys and girls, get out your
- German dictionaries and tell me what "Mensch" means....
