  13. Theme       : Non-existent charity, boy dying of cancer, etc

  15. Variation : In the Luton & Bedfordshire area of the UK there was a recent 
  16.         'sick' case of trickery that smacked of UL. The jist of the
  17.         con was to get people to collect bar-codes in order to buy
  18.         an expensive piece of medical equipment for the local hospital
  19.         ( Luton & District ). This suckered quite a few people and was
  20.         exposed in the local newspapers. This is not a FOAF as it 
  21.         happened to AF whose initials are SD ( validating criteria or
  22.         what ?? ). It caused quite a lot of humour at work as for the 
  23.         2 or 3 weeks building up to the exposure it was impossible to 
  24.         find anything in the office with a bar code intact ( milk 
  25.         cartons excluded ). If it was not nailed down the bar code 
  26.         was gone !!
