- Theme : Non-existent charity, boy dying of cancer, etc
-
- Variation : In the Luton & Bedfordshire area of the UK there was a recent
- 'sick' case of trickery that smacked of UL. The jist of the
- con was to get people to collect bar-codes in order to buy
- an expensive piece of medical equipment for the local hospital
- ( Luton & District ). This suckered quite a few people and was
- exposed in the local newspapers. This is not a FOAF as it
- happened to AF whose initials are SD ( validating criteria or
- what ?? ). It caused quite a lot of humour at work as for the
- 2 or 3 weeks building up to the exposure it was impossible to
- find anything in the office with a bar code intact ( milk
- cartons excluded ). If it was not nailed down the bar code
- was gone !!
