- "The Independent," a weekly newspaper (SSN 0737-8254) in Durham, N.C.,
- reports in its Dec. 23 issue that Poinsettias are not poisonous,
- according to toxicologist Mary Beth St.Clair of N.C. State University.
- She says the white fluid in them might irritate the mouth and make
- you choke, but is not toxic. She cited research she had read and
- conversations with the Poison Control Center at Duke University.
-
- Not an urban legend, but an instance of the closely-related "popular
- misconception."
