  12. "The Independent," a weekly newspaper (SSN 0737-8254) in Durham, N.C.,
  13. reports in its Dec. 23 issue that Poinsettias are not poisonous,
  14. according to toxicologist Mary Beth St.Clair of N.C. State University.
  15. She says the white fluid in them might irritate the mouth and make
  16. you choke, but is not toxic.  She cited research she had read and
  17. conversations with the Poison Control Center at Duke University.
