  28. A few years ago when the Mrs Fields story was going around (and
  29. before Brunvand had published the book with the story in it) I
  30. was in a Mrs Fields shop in Seattle and saw a sign that made
  31. reference to the story, and how it was not true.  I went home and
  32. looked up the reference on the Red Velvet Cake story in Brunvand's
  33. book, photocopied it, and sent it to Debbie Fields with a note
  34. saying that the two stories sounded awfully close.  Then I closed
  35. with some smart remark about how her cookies were now "legendary."

  37. She wrote back a nice letter, and enclosed her business card,
  38. and on the back was written "Give this guy a pound of cookies."
  39. In the letter she mentioned that I could trade it for cookies
  40. at any Mrs Fields outlet.

  42. The young ladies at Mrs Fields on University Way were very
  43. impressed!  The cookies were great.
