- A few years ago when the Mrs Fields story was going around (and
- before Brunvand had published the book with the story in it) I
- was in a Mrs Fields shop in Seattle and saw a sign that made
- reference to the story, and how it was not true. I went home and
- looked up the reference on the Red Velvet Cake story in Brunvand's
- book, photocopied it, and sent it to Debbie Fields with a note
- saying that the two stories sounded awfully close. Then I closed
- with some smart remark about how her cookies were now "legendary."
-
- She wrote back a nice letter, and enclosed her business card,
- and on the back was written "Give this guy a pound of cookies."
- In the letter she mentioned that I could trade it for cookies
- at any Mrs Fields outlet.
-
- The young ladies at Mrs Fields on University Way were very
- impressed! The cookies were great.
