- Very interesting!!! I had actually re-thought out the problem last night
- prior to these new postings. The person who posted the 1 in a million
- example bothered me, and finally led me to my error!!! I see the light!!
- Or rather the odds!!! I thank all of those people patient enough to make
- another try at enlightening me. My error was in reassigning the probability
- from the opened door to *all* the remaining doors. It only reassigns to
- those doors within its group (the other 999,998 in the million case, or
- the single door in the 3 door case). The probability of the prize within
- a group remains constant!!! The groups are "my door" and "all the rest",
- and those group's probability remains 33% vs 67%.

- This is in fact the crux of my error. Excellently put.

- WRONG!!! I read every post that relates to a subject I comment on and do my
- best to evaluate it with an open mind. I understand your frustration, and do
- appreciate your patience with this posting.

- WRONG!! You are making a fool of yourself. Somebody can come up with a problem
- that will stump anybody, yourself included. Not understanding something does not
- make someone a fool. Not listening to others makes them the fool. Even though
- I felt sure of my position, I still read and thought about every response posted
- either directly to me, or just on the subject. A lot of times, it takes looking
- at the problem in just the right way to achieve the breakthrough. And as for it
- being a well known problem, only to those who read the proper news groups. Try
- asking people on the street, or better yet, ask the family at Christmas Dinner.
- Then tell me it's a well known problem.
