- In article 22380@midway.uchicago.edu, thf2@ellis.uchicago.edu (Ted Frank) writes:

-
- This is, oddly enough, true. Butter is weighted using avoirdupois
- (French for "have some peas", since peas go so well with butter)
- measurements, whereas feathers are weighed using troy (corruption of
- French "troi" (three), since feathers come in groups of three)
- measurements. ("Metric" can also be used to weigh (or rather "mass")
- feathers, as it is an anglification of "hat trick", French for "three
- in a row".)
-
- Don't believe it? Cook up some peas, and put some butter on them.
- Good, isn't it? Remove the feathers from your pillow. Count them.
- The number you get will be evenly divisible by three (unless your
- pillow was improperly stuffed).
-
- Speaking of flans, I had some really good ones while in Manitoba. It
- was at the Flin Flon Fen Flan Fun Fling, an annual bake-off/party held
- in the swamps outside of the town.
