Yes, you made a mistake.  More than one.  The first  was in the cross posting.  No real
harm done there.  The second mistake was in taking any post that didn't treat your
original post with the utmost respect as a flame.  The third was in flaming right back.
I still haven't seen any responses to your original post that could really be construed as
an outright flame.  People have been having some fun with what some would consider a
strange post maybe, but no real flames.   You yourself say you are new to this.  Before
you get all upset, maybe you should read the other postings for a while and get the feel
of the group.  You will probably see that nobody here gets any respect (or usually asks
for it, either).

Lets see.  If a response to your original post was not filled with complete respect, you
typically called the poster a meathead or an asshole and offered to "kiss your Rosey Red
Rectum" (I like that one.  Nice festive image).  You are bent.
