- Last weekend, I made the double chocolate cookies from the new Mrs.
- Field's cookie cookbook and they turned out great. Two people at a
- party asked me for the source of the recipe and when I told them "Mrs.
- Field's," both mentioned that a friend told them about a $250
- recipe.... One *swore* the story really happened to her friend. All
- storytellers were told to read Brunvand's books. I wonder whether
- I'll be invited back next year.
-
- There's an allusion to the $250 cookie story, by the way, in the
- book's introduction, where it mentions that the recipes aren't the
- same as those used in the bakeries, since those require professional
- equipment and ingredients. [The secret of the cookbook, by the way,
- is the use of a 300 F/~20 minutes oven for most of the drop cookies,
- rather than the 375 F/~10 minutes recommended in the canonical Toll
- House recipe.]
-
- Now, if I could just find a copy of the Waldorf's red velvet cake
- recipe for less than $250....
