  17. Last weekend, I made the double chocolate cookies from the new Mrs.
  18. Field's cookie cookbook and they turned out great.  Two people at a
  19. party asked me for the source of the recipe and when I told them "Mrs.
  20. Field's," both mentioned that a friend told them about a $250
  21. recipe....  One *swore* the story really happened to her friend.  All
  22. storytellers were told to read Brunvand's books.  I wonder whether
  23. I'll be invited back next year.

  25. There's an allusion to the $250 cookie story, by the way, in the
  26. book's introduction, where it mentions that the recipes aren't the
  27. same as those used in the bakeries, since those require professional
  28. equipment and ingredients.  [The secret of the cookbook, by the way,
  29. is the use of a 300 F/~20 minutes oven for most of the drop cookies,
  30. rather than the 375 F/~10 minutes recommended in the canonical Toll
  31. House recipe.]

  33. Now, if I could just find a copy of the Waldorf's red velvet cake
  34. recipe for less than $250....
