- I've had three pelvic exams; once by a woman internist, the other two
- by a woman registered nurse practitioner. I [felt like a sexist pig and]
- specifically requested an appointment with one of the women when I
- was scheduling the first one, on the basis that at least the person
- _doing_ the exam would know what it was like to _experience_ one.
- (Actually, a male doctor had suggested that I might be more comfortable
- with a woman doing the exam, at least for the first time.)
-
- At any rate, Maryann handled my tenseness fine, started off with a
- small warmed-up speculum (not small enough, darn it!), had potholders
- on the stirrups for comfort, and gave me an extra-long appointment.
-
- Other than that, I've had both doctors who happened to be male and
- doctors who happened to be female, and noticed no gender-related
- differences between them.
-
- Good luck finding statistics!
