- Perhaps "Dave" is a one trick pony, but his trick is what keeps me reading
- his books. OK, so his theme never really changes, but there are almost no
- new themes anymore anyway. (Someone mentioned Robert Jordan the other day:
- Young man discovers sorcery and is prophecied to challenge the "Dark One" is
- all that series boils down to.)
-
- What Eddings seems to do better than most is describe realistic characters
- that interact realistically. They banter, they joke, they tease, and they
- get serious or sad or pissed off, and it almost never seems contrived. They
- laugh at the world even when in the face of great danger. I will admit that
- he tends to repeat character types, but that may be a factor of his choice
- of thematic material.
-
- Does anyone know if Eddings has written material with a different theme or
- set in modern times?
