- Wrong, cactus breath! ;^) (but not *too* wrong)

- Mescal (a/k/a Mezcal) comes from the maguey plant, a succulent of the agave
- genus which is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a "cactus". And it is
- true that many people believe mezcal to be hallucinagenic for the reasons
- stated.

- The original poster was correct that mescal is the particular cactus of the
- peyote genus (genus Lophophora, mescal is the specie L. williamsii) which is
- most often refered to as the "peyote cactus". The poster above has it exactly
- backwards, although it is understandable since most people do in fact mean
- only L. williamsii when using the word "peyote".
