- Hi!
-
- Here's an efficient article. Three topics in one.
- 1. Regarding Upstate boundaries... Someone recently posted
- to the effect of not being from Upstate, but Western NY.
- Why not both? I spent most of my childhood in Oneida
- and always feel that it is Upstate and Central NY simultaneously.
- (As an aside, I loathe the marketing push of the "Leatherstocking
- Region".) I never think of the area between Albany and NYC as
- Upstate, it always seemed like a distinct area of its own,
- loosely referred to as the Hudson River Valley.
- Now that I live in NJ I always qualify my origin as Upstate.
-
- 2. As far as NY = NYC: we had an exchange student from Finland
- a couple of years ago. Her impressions of NY (in fact all of
- the US) were derived mostly from movies; and of those she
- really likes the action/cop type. She had a vague idea that
- NYC = USA! Driving through parts of Pennsylvania with its beautiful
- farms, hills, etc., she said she was surprised to see trees.
- She, and her friends thought they had all been killed by acid rain.
-
- 3. As far as the discussion of Upstate beers - I found a mint set
- of Schultz and Dooley bar lights (boxed, new) in the attic
- of the house we moved into here in NJ.
- Do they call up any memories for anybody?
