  17. I don't have cable TV (!) so I hadn't seen MST3K until the other day.
  18. I was getting drunk with some friends at my girlfriend's house (she
  19. has cable) and it came on, showing "Santa Claus Conquers the
  20. Martians." (An excellent film, BTW.) I was very interested to see what
  21. the MST3K format would do to it, since I'd seen so much controversy
  22. over the net.

  24. I thought it was, under the circumstances, a fun way to see the film.
  25. The commentary was generally amusing and added to my enjoyment. If I
  26. had not been drunk, and had been more serious about enjoying the
  27. nuances of the film, perhaps I wouldn't have liked the MST factor, and
  28. would have rented the video instead. But then I would also have been
  29. sssh-ing all the drunks in the room (who were also making funny
  30. comments, Maurice) too.

  32. So, I'd say MST3K can be appreciated and enjoyed for what it is.

  34. In the same vein, I bought a copy of Film Threat, which has been
  35. bludgeoned on the net. It is no Psychotronic Video, but it has its
  36. moments. It's a little too close to the "real world" (Hollywood) for
  37. me. I can see myself buying occasional copies when there's an article
  38. of interest.

  40. If imperfect entities like these get some more people interested in
  41. seeing cult movies, I say that's good. Meanwhile, we alt.cult-movies
  42. people can remain at the forefront of it all. ;-)
