- I don't know about anyone else, but the last scene in this movie between
- Miou Miou and the klutzy businessman (where she has him read to her) is
- as moving as anything I have seen in years. And unlike most of the
- sentimental crap pushed by American producers, it isn't the least bit
- hokey.
-
- La Lectrice is on my top ten list.
-
- A few "oldies" (late sixties to seventies) that I can recommend:
-
- King of Hearts - one of two truly anti-war movies that I have seen.
- (The other is an American film called "Hell to Eternity"
- which stars David Janssen before he became the fugitive
- and before anti-war sentiments were chic.)
-
- Alexandre - About a French farmer who, after his pushy wife and in-laws
- are killed in a traffic accident, decides to stop working and
- spend the rest of life in his bed. (The name in the title
- is the name of his dog, also prominent.) The farmer's
- early retirement arouses opposition from the rest of the
- town who attempt just about everything to get him out of
- bed. A few rough spots, but generally good farce.
-
- The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob - About an anti-Semitic French businessman
- who is being chased (by mobsters, I think) and poses as an American
- rabbi visiting France. This delightful romp has something to
- offend just about everybody.
-
- The Sicilian Clan - A great gangster flick.

- Eric
