- It amazes me how little people research before opening their mouth and
- inserting their foot.
-
- Moonraker was most definitely written by Ian Fleming. As a matter of fact
- it was one of his earlier books. The big problem here is you people are
- all talking about the movies. The only part of the movies that can be
- attributed to Ian Fleming are the titles. The first few (Dr. No, From
- Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice) are
- close to the books, but after that they get further and further away from
- reality until we reach From A View To A Kill which didn't get the title
- right, bears not even a minor resemblence to the book with a similar title
- (From A View To Kill) and which doesn't even make sense as an English sentence.
-
- The movies are also out of sequence which affects the overall perception.
-
- I would suggest for anyone who is curious as to wether or not there is any
- basis in fact for the James Bond saga to read the whole series of books in
- order and then draw your conclusions. I did this 20 years ago.
- Oh and the series actually ends with The Man With The Golden Gun. Octopussy
- was first published after Fleming was dead in Playboy magazine and I noticed
- more than enough diffence in style to be very suspicious of it's actual origin.
-
- In case anyone is interested, there was a book published in the early 70's (I
- think) that explored this whole concept. There was even enough information
- provided in the books that they actually located James Bond's flat.
-
- There is much basis for belief that Ian Fleming based his character on some
- real person, but the movies are pure hogwash.
