- Fans of this newsgroup have absolutely got to check out the December
- 26th issue of the Economist. Beginning on page 20 is an article about
- what they call "networks," by which they mean unofficial organizations
- which in various subtle ways influence the structure of society and the
- course of history -- in other words, conspiracies!
-
- The article offers a catalog of such "networks," giving a capsule
- description of each and ranking each on a scale of five in regard to
- such qualities as Power, Secrecy, Organization, Strength of Belief,
- Peculiarity of Rituals, and Exclusivity. All the old alt.conspiracy
- favorites are included, such as the Trilateral Commission, Freemasonry,
- Opus Dei, and the Illuminati (the only one to get a "5" in all 6
- categories.)
-
- But the real kicker is that among these listed conspiracies is --
- USENET! I an not making this up!!! According to this distinguished
- periodical, we're all part of conspiracy. If you're interested, our
- ranking is Power - 2, Secrecy - 0, Organization - 1, Strength of Belief
- -2, Peculiarity of Ritual - 5, and Exclusivity - 1. I think that's
- pretty accurate, except maybe for the high Peculiarity of Ritual score.
- Nothing I do on the net is weird. I'm not talking about the rest of
- you.
