  33. I doubt Michael McDonald is actually amazed, since proponents of
  34. indoctrination have often argued that all schooling is indoctrination
  35. anyway, and therefore when their side has the power, there is no
  36. reason not to lay it on thick.

  38. I have been reading "Generations" by William Strauss and Neil Howe,
  39. which someone recommended on rec.arts.books.  It tells us that
  40. strongly ideological generations are always disappointed in their
  41. successors' lapses from the true faith and try to make up for it
  42. with intensified discipline.  The Puritans carried it to the
  43. extent of killing witches.  If we look at the campaign to impose
  44. political correctness, of which the current environmental indoctrination
  45. campaign is a part, we can see that it will pass.  Fortunately,
  46. the Woodstock generation had only a minor flirt with terrorism
  47. and probably won't actually kill anyone with its present
  48. institutional power.

  50. According to the schedule predicted by Strauss and Howe, my seven year
  51. old son is in a generation fated to great achievement like the World
  52. War II generation that has had the Presidency since the end of WWII.

  55. the "civic generation" that won WWII, built the highway system
  56. and the space program and established the U.S. as the world's leading
  57. country.
