  16. I am a satisfied customer of the SpectraPure company and in recent
  17. discussion regarding a custom setup for my reef tank with Mr. Mitsis,
  18. the situation described below came into the discussion.  I was asked
  19. to distribute this information to the general public via electronic
  20. means (Internet, Compuserve) and he faxed me the statement below.  I
  21. offer no personal statement to the validity of any of the claims
  22. herein; and any typos found are probably from my re-entering the
  23. information from my computer fax to ascii code (I need an OCR
  24. program!).  Items that were underlined in the fax appear _like this_
  25. and all capitalization is as the fax was sent.   Please direct
  26. followup to the company at the numbers listed below.

  29. customer.  SpectraPure is a company which manufacters and sells
  30. Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filtration systems and advertises in
  31. Tropical Fish Hobbiest (TFH) and Freshwater and Marine Aquarium (FAMA)
  32. magazines.

  50. Dear Valued Customers,

  52.         Sheridan Bay's services as a distributor for SpectraPure were
  53. terminated in late October 1992.  We immediately asked them to stop
  54. advertising under the SpectraPure name and logo.  _THEY REFUSED_ and
  55. _IN ADDITION_ are now continuing the SpectraPure ads in TFH and FAMA
  56. magazines while selling and shipping grossly inferior products to
  57. purchasers who are misled into thinking they are buying SpectraPure
  58. products.

  60.         SpectraPure herewith formally disclaims any and all
  61. responsibility for the fraudulent practices of Sheridan Bay and its
  62. backers and principles.  We have sued them for the unethical and
  63. unlawful acts committed against SpectraPure.

  65.         We have established that Sheridan Bay is presently shipping
  66. the poorest quality components and its products are untested and
  67. improperly designed.   Those products will not, in many instances,
  68. function as specified.  Customers are calling us daily complaining
  69. about this fraud --  because they have been led to believe they were
  70. buying SpectraPure products when they ordered from Sheridan Bay under
  71. its TFH and FAMA magazine ads using SpectraPure's name, logo, and
  72. model numbers.

  74.         We have not yet been able to stop these magazines from letting
  75. Sheridan Bay use our name, logo, and model numbers.  Even though these
  76. Sheridan Bay people do not understand the science of water
  77. purification systems, they have attempted to copy SpectraPure's basic
  78. system (using the cheapest of components) -- BUT IN UNITS OF THEIRS
  79. THAT WE HAVE HAD EXAMINED AND TESTED THEY WERE IMPROPERLY PUT TOGETHER
  80. AND SOME OF THEM ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL.  We are issuing this disclaimer
  81. for your protection and ours because of the false advertising.

  83.         Products bought from Sheridan Bay after October 1992 will most
  84. likely fall far below the high quality for which SpectraPure is known.
  85. We are _NOW FACTORY DIRECT_ and able to provide you with added value
  86. at reduced cost.  SpectraPure CSP systems now come standard with
  87. premium carbon block pre-filters and Research Grade TFC membranes for
  88. increased performance and longer life.

  90.         SpectraPure sincerely hopes you will not be damaged by the
  91. fraud herein described.  We pleaded with these people not to do this
  92. -- but we now can prove what they have done and are doing.  Call us at
