  27. Adoption occurs when *both* parents forfeit the child.  A woman cannot
  28. give the child up for adoption if the biological father wants to keep it.

  30. In fact, there's a big stink about such a case going on right now.
  31. The mother claimed one man was the father.  He signed the release form.
  32. The child was then formally adopted by another couple.  Now the birth
  33. mother claims that another man is the father.  Since he never signed 
  34. the release forms he claims that his legal right to the child was never
  35. legally severed, and he is suing to recover custody from the adoptive
  36. parents.  DNA tests pending.  (sorry, I don't have the reference 
  37. pending just now.  But it's been in the news all this past week.)
