- We've run up against the same problem. I even asked some of the same
- questions here some time ago. What we have finally ended up with is
- two different schemes, depending on the need. In one case we have
- created a dummy user on the Vaxes and the Un*x machines. The dummy user
- on the Vax end owns the files, and is in the same UIC group as the
- users. This Vax user maps to a dummy Un*x UID/GID which has the same
- GID as the Un*x users who need to use the files. We then give all of
- the files G:RWED on the Vax end and that seems to work. You could (and
- we do) also allow one of the users to own the files, as long as all of
- the users are in the same group on both the Vax and Unix ends and the
- files have G:RWED.
-
- I also would like to see a version of Multinet's NFS server that could
- handle files owned by a resource ID.
