- #When one ftps to the site, you get the warning message:
- #220- WARNING
- #220-
- #220- The programs and data held on this system are the property of
- #220- BNR Europe Ltd, lawfully available to authorised users for authorised
- #220- company purposes only. Such authorisation must be obtained from
- #220- BNR Europe Ltd.
- #220-
- #220- It is a criminal offense to secure unauthorised access to any program
- #220- or data on, or make any unauthorised modification to the contents of,
- #220- this computer system. Offenders are liable to criminal prosecution.
- #220-
- #220- You may log in as 'anonymous' if you give your full e-mail address
- #220- as your password. We will log this and all your actions.
- #220-
- #220- If you are not an authorised user, please DISCONNECT IMMEDIATELY
- #
- #So, what is required in becoming an 'authorised user'?
-
- As it says, you may log in as anonymous, giving your mail address as
- password, (don't fake it, as I suspect its got tracing enabled and will
- know which host you're connected from).
-
- It would be illegal to try to log in on any other account, unless authorised
- of course. The anonymous account is a very restricted one, and only allows
- FTP access so far as I know.
-
- BTW warnings like the above, usually known as "Computer Misuse Act
- warnings", have become frequent on UK computer systems, since the Act made
- it a criminal offence to access computers in certain unauthorised ways.
- The wording ensures that nobody thinks it is a public or open system, so
- removing the possible defense that the user thought he was permitted to
- access it.
