  22. he might not choose to post on the internet.  Seriously, I am seeing a lot 
  23. of purely ad hominem arguments:

  25.   - "Adherents of Theory XYZ include known scoundrels.  Therefore Theory
  26.      XYZ must be wrong."

  28.   - "Adherents of Theory XYZ cannot even agree on some of the essentials.
  29.      Therefore their theory must be entirely nonsense."

  31. I have heard the first argument applied by the luddites to the founders of
  32. evolutionary biology.  The second argument could be applied to quantum 
  33. mechanics, general relativity, or even all of science.
