- I have a question for you math types. I am in the process
- of reviewing tensors and in working the problems in the
- book a friend of mine gave me, I encountered one problem
- that probably has a simple answer but it is giving me fits.
-
- Given the tensor equation-
-
- r s
- f = a x x (summation implied)
- rs
-
- show that-
-
-
- r s
- df/dx = (a +a )x (note this is a PARTIAL derivitive)
- rs sr
-
- The part that is causing me problems is the index switch
- (rs to sr) in the constant part.
-
- I can solve it for a specific case (I assumed a 3 dimensional
- space) but solving the general symbolic (or N dimensional)
- case is causing a bad case of brain lockup.
-
- Any one willing to tackle it for me?
-
- Please reply by email as I will be on vacation til 1/4/93 and
- net replies will probably time out before I get back.
-
- Thanks in advance for your time and trouble.
