  13. I have a question for you math types. I am in the process 
  14. of reviewing tensors and in working the problems in the
  15. book a friend of mine gave me, I encountered one problem 
  16. that probably has a simple answer but it is giving me fits.

  18. Given the tensor equation-

  21.       f = a  x x          (summation implied)
  22.            rs
  23.   
  24. show that-

  28.    df/dx  = (a  +a  )x    (note this is a PARTIAL derivitive) 
  29.               rs  sr

  31. The part that is causing me problems is the index switch
  32. (rs to sr) in the constant part.

  34. I can solve it for a specific case (I assumed a 3 dimensional
  35. space) but solving the general symbolic (or N dimensional)
  36. case is causing a bad case of brain lockup.

  38. Any one willing to tackle it for me?
