- My point was not to alarm people who may have played with the stuff in the
- past, but to point out that simply because it can be played with a few
- times does not prove that it's a safe material. Someone in the business
- of mercury cleanup would want to protect themselves each time to avoid
- disastrous buildup of mercury in the system.

- Another application for elemental mercury is in the gold mining business.
- More than a few old prospectors have suffered the same fate as the hatters
- of old, although since the miners had the benefit of often working with it
- in the great outdoors, their doses were probably smaller. In this case for
- certain, the mercury was vaporized to remove it from the gold. Several
- rivers in old gold rush areas suffer from mercury contamination from this
- application.
