- I knew it would come to this...
- Lets see if we can find some perspective to place this in...
- As electric vehicles near production, the effeciency, size, and power-weight
-
- ratio will lead to designing vehicles with motors at the wheels. Either two
- motors or four motors on each vehicle.
- Now let us look at a minimal electric vehicle with current technology.
- Probably a sub-compact with a strong light-weight chassis, a lot of light-weigh
- t
- materials, batteries, and two electric motors on the rear wheels. This would
- give it 40 Horsepower.
- How does this compare with current vehicles? Hmmm.. I have a beat-up 1975
- Mercedez 240D. This is a compact car and fairly heavy. The diesel engine is
- a 2400 cc power monster with a whopping rated 65 horsepower. Now, I use every
- engine elixir I can waste my money on, so I am probably getting most of my
- 65 horses. I am seldom left at the light by anyone (more of a tribute to my
- wild diesel driving style.) Most of us have been annoyed by diesels creeping
- through the light ahead of us. But these are often cars over 15 years old that
- probably have barely over 40 horses left in their engines.
- Now lets compare this to our minimal EV. We will have a car with Two thirds
- the weight of my car powered by two thirds the horses. This wouldn't change my
- driving style... I am looking forward to being one of the first people in the
- world to get a deal on an early model Flywheel powered Electric Used car (Its
- my style.)
- It all seems possible to me... Ted..
