  13. I have a Fisher CD player which worked well for 4 years. About two
  14. weeks ago, it developed a problem. When you insert a disk, it spins
  15. it up and then flashes "DISK" on the display. It's acting like it
  16. can not tell it has a disk in the drive. I cleaned the optics and
  17. everything else I could think uf but no change. I put it on a shelf
  18. and figured I'd get around to ordering a service manual.

  20. About a week ago, my sister called and asked If I'd come look at her
  21. stereo. Turns out the problem was with the CD player. It just kept
  22. flashing "DISK" on the display. I told her to hold on to it and when
  23. I figured mine out, I'd fix hers.

  25. Yesterday, my boss asked if I'd mind looking at his CD player, a late
  26. model Emerson. Seems that when you install a disk, (see it coming?)
  27. it just flashes "DISK" on the display.

  29. Now, I can live without my player for a long time. I can also deal
  30. with my sisters nagging. However, since the last unit belongs to my boss,
  31. solving the problem is now a higher priority.

  33. Does anybody have any clues or hints as to what might be going on here?
  34. It really looks virus-esque but I believe this must be some common
  35. failure mode for inexpensive CD players.
