- Greetings. Nope.... there is something far greater behind this:
- greed. You see, the silicon chip is bonded to the PCB, all the
- wires are then bonded from the chip to the traces, and the whole
- thing is potted with a drop of "stuff"... No need for soldering,
- packaging, assembly, weight, size and most important, lower CO$T!
- (Take a look at any el-cheapo LCD watch gut!)

- P.S. Also, since there are less connections (solder, etc), the
- reliabity is higher for this method. What I'm wondering: Why are
- SIMMs made from individual chips on a PCB - why not do the above?
- I guess one thing would be thermal concerns (silicon expanding
- at a different rate than potting "stuff" and connecting wires
- shearing off... but there must be a better reason! Anyone know?
