- In a previous article, buckley@powdml.enet.dec.com (Bill Buckley) says:

- >True -- there can be mid-course brakes that are used only for

- >model of KUMBA in ACE News, there is no place in the design
- >allocated for such a set of brakes!! KUMBA's layout is all loops
- >and transistion trackwork. I suspect that the blocking will be
- >done in sections in a VERY long brake run!!

- I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Magnum in this discussion. The
- Magnum runs three trains with no emergency/blocking brakes anywhere along
- its course. True, there's a set of brakes going into the turnaround to
- slow the trains down, but they can't possibly stop the train (and that
- would be a terrible place to stop a train anyway). The Magnum accomplishes
- three-train operation in much the way you're describing, Bill; before even
- reaching the station (but after the ride is actually over), there are two
- spots where trains can be stopped. So they can actually have all three
- trains lined up at the station. I'm sure that KUMBA will do something
- similar, as you've already predicted.
