- I've had a couple people ask about the Astro-Blaster that I've built
- to take to Torrey Pines. I got the plans from a friend and built if
- from scratch. The wing span is 36 inches. It has a very good sweep
- to the wings. The controls are ailerons and canard for elevator.
-
- Only two channels. That's all you need. There are fins on the wing
- tips, but they are fixed.
-
- I finished the plane last night. So I had to try it today.
-
- This is my first canard, so I wasn't sure about the CG. I just got back
- from a long lunch, where we gave it some hand tosses. The CG was way
- too far forward. I guess the guy who drew the plans was a conservative
- flyer.
-
- It started out as a lawn dart. Throw... ...DOINK!
-
-
- Move the battery/CG back...
-
- Throw... ...DOINK!
-
- Move the battery/CG back further...
-
- Throw... ...DOINK!
-
- Move the battery/CG back even further and increase the canard incidence...
-
- Throw... Fast Glide.. ...doink!
-
- Further increase the canard incidence, add reflex to the ailerons...
-
- Throw... Glide.. ...slide!
-
-
- Finally, we got the CG in the range where it would pull up. I think, I'll
- still move it back even more. I also need to increase the Elevator throw.
- The ailerons are very responsive. You think about a slight roll, and it's
- there.
-
- I leave tomorrow night for San Diego.
-
- I'll keep rec.models.rc informed. I've gotten alot of good info from
- them.
