- I know a little about the onithopter efforts taking place at the
- University of Toronto. Jim DeLaurier and Jerry Harris spent 20 years
- on the design of the world's first RC powered ornithopter. Up until
- a year ago there only claim to fame was that they had a ornithpter
- that flew but did not sustain flight, i.e. climb. (MaCready's pterodactyl
- did this too.) I was contacted by Jim DeLaurier to design them a new
- airfoil specifically for the task of flapping. With the new airfoil, this
- improved matters just enough so that it could climb. Coverage of the
- flight made it on CNN just a little over a year ago.
