I have an 1980 volvo DL, that was running perfectly till the day before.
Then, it suddenly died, all of a sudden , wouldnt even crank. Jumped it starts as soon as the cable is connected, doesnt even take time to charge, then when cable is taken off dies again after a min or so. Before all this the dash lights were flickering intermittently but I attributed it to loose wiring on rough roads.
The battery is oonly 6 months old. The weather here (Dallas) has been wet and soggy for the past few days and the car has taken a lot of abuse (no splash guard). HELP me, whats up, I plan to recgaharge the battery today and try, oh incidentally an alternator wire seemed torn loose and I fixed that. Any clues anyone..
After the jumping when it dies again, the battery does not even turn the motor. Havent checked alternator o/p yet but plan to. The Alternator turns briefly when I cold start it after a long wait so I guess the motor works, The belt tension seems O.K
