- Try asking the computer for error codes. On my 1988 Plymouth
- Sundance with the 2.2L turbo, you just click the ignition key
- ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON, and it flashes the "check engine" light at you
- in code. Count the flashes; you are looking for two-digit code
- numbers, with a short wait in between digits and a longer wait
- between codes.
-
- Look up the error codes in a service manual. The computer is
- smart enough to diagnose short circuits, open circuits, and
- unexpected responses from almost all of its sensors, and some of
- its actuators.
