- The solution was:

-
- I replaced the thermostat (it turned out to be stuck open,) and now
- everything is working fine!

- Your guess sounds right. Besides the fact that your gauge might be mulfunctioning,
- your thermostat is either stuck open or missing :-). I suggest you change the thermostat
- and see what happens. If the car never gets to normal operating temp, you are not getting
- the gas milage that you should! Plus your oil may never get warm enough, leading to other
- problems. While at it, change that old coolant too!

- My 89 Probe GT just had the EXACT same thing happen to it last week.
- I bought a new thermostat for $6 yesterday and am going to replace it
- this weekend when I have the chance. I've heard this happen to a bunch
- of other people with MX-6's and Probes too. I've got about 50,000 miles
- on mine. How about you?

- I would definitely look at the thermostat. While in open run mode it
- would keep the temperature low but while driving through the city where
- you wouldn't have the forced cooling.. it'll get warmer. It's not
- terribly difficult to replace a thermostat either.
